Divas face social stigma

Humiliating women has become a new kind of virtual attack for common people nowadays. And the newest victims of this are Bollywood actresses. Recently, a few Bollywood divas got attacked by haters, virtually. Dangal girl, Fatima Sana Shaikh was trolled for posting a swimsuit photo during Ramadan. Not only Fatima, Deepika Padukone was also criticised for her outfit in a magazine shoot, while Priyanka Chopra was criticised for wearing a dress that revealed her legs during her meeting with PM Narendra Modi in Berlin. Even Bigg Boss star and actor, Sana Khan was also trolled, even though she was completely covered up! Sana Khan shared a picture of her, seeking Allah’s blessings at the Kaaba Sharif in Mecca, and was roasted for wearing an abaya – an Islamic dress. Trolls said that she would again return to films and wear short clothes, so why bother wearing the abaya! To this, Sana replied, “I feel that people who have nothing better to do in life, troll others. If they trolled Fatima for wearing a swimsuit during Ramadan because they found it offensive, why would they troll my picture, in which I am fully covered and in a place where all desire to be. It’s clear that it’s not about religion; it’s just about putting people down because you have nothing better to do in life.” Pink actor Taapsee Pannu feels that celebrities shouldn’t pay any attention to these trolls. “Their aim is not to teach us or tame us; they just want to get through to us by capturing our attention in whatever way possible. By showing them our anger, we’re helping them get what they want. These people have nothing better to do in life. These trolls are not worth our attention,” she says. Actor Richa Chadha, who has always been vocal about her opinion, calls them “unhappy and irrelevant” people. “No one gets to dictate how one should dress,” says Richa.
