Loan defaulter plans to venture into Hollywood

Two brothers, MA Kader and Abdul Aziz, the main beneficiaries of the Crescent Group, owe crores to the state-run Janata bank as of today

Update : 17 Aug 2020, 06:05 PM

Jaaz Multimedia owner Abdul Aziz unveiled his plans on social media to fly to the United States with an army of actors and crew members, and make as many as three films in Hollywood. Curiously enough, the ‘notorious Bond’ of the banking sector, Aziz has been fleeing the authorities for quite some time after being exposed as one of the leading loan defaulters in the country.

Two brothers, MA Kader and Abdul Aziz, the main beneficiaries of the Crescent Group, owe crores to the state-run Janata bank as of today.

Earlier in January, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal disclosed the list of top loan defaulters; all sister concerns of the Crescent Group including the three leading loan defaulters in the country - Rimex Footwear Ltd, Crescent Leather Products Ltd and Rupali Composite Leatherwear Ltd – have topped the list.

While Aziz had yet to pay a single penny to the bank, back in 2019, he announced his plans to bring Masud Rana back to the silver screen, a project that was estimated to cost him around 83 crores. Moreover, for the last two years, Aziz has been living a life of luxury abroad while apparently throwing dust in the authorities’ eyes.

The Jaaz Multimedia owner is now back with more lavish plans and shocking announcements of cast members for his upcoming Hollywood films, including the likes of Mickey Rourke, Gabriella Wrigh, wrestling star the Great Khaali and others.

He wrote: “We are going to make three films with Hollywood co-producers. All three - shot entirely in Europe, America and Asia, will have a global premiere. In the process, many Bangladeshi artists will obtain global fame, including ABM Sumon who was cast in the Masud Rana role.”

ABM Sumon, however, says that he has no idea about any visits to America. The actor also disclosed that he had not signed, contrary to previous reports, any contract with Jaaz Multimedia for the Masud Rana film.

Jazz Multimedia rapidly progressed as a film production house since 2011 despite stirring up several controversies.

The production house has been facing steady losses since 2018 after embezzlement allegations had become public against its owner, and is now unable to pay its own employees according to various reports. At a time like this, the news of Abdul Aziz’s potential venture into Hollywood has taken many by surprise.
