Paramount is developing a sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," more than two decades after the original film’s release. Kate Hudson, who starred in the film, is attached to produce the project alongside Stacey Sher.
The sequel remains in the early stages of development, with Paramount currently looking for a screenwriter. The cast and other key creative roles have yet to be finalized.
The studio and filmmakers hope Hudson and Matthew McConaughey will return as Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry, respectively. However, their involvement in the cast has not been officially confirmed and will depend partly on the script.
The original film, directed by Donald Petrie, follows Andie, a magazine writer who agrees to write an article about how to drive a man away in 10 days.
She chooses Benjamin as her target, unaware that he has made a bet to make a woman fall in love with him within the same period.
Their competing plans eventually lead to a genuine relationship, forming the central premise of the romantic comedy.
Released in 2003, the film was a commercial success, earning about $177.5 million worldwide against a reported $50 million budget.
Hudson and McConaughey have continued to discuss the film’s lasting popularity. McConaughey recently called it one of his favorite romantic comedies and said it remains his most financially rewarding film in terms of residuals.
The sequel comes as Hollywood continues to revisit established films and franchises. However, Paramount has not announced a release date, plot, or production schedule for the project.
