Bollywood wishes 'Happy Baisakhi'

April 13-15 are celebrated across different cultures in South and Southeast Asia. It marks the new year for the Bangla, Sikh, Tamil, Malayalam, Odia, Assamese and Thai calendar. While some Bollywood stars wished Happy Pohela Boishakh, most wished Happy Baisakhi, which was intended for the Sikh new year on April 13. 

Actors Bipasa Basu and Vivek Oberoi wished a happy new year to all six cultures sharing the same photo. Basu wrote: "Wishing us all happiness and love each day ... everyday #weshallovercome #jaihind." Oberoi simply hashtagged all the wishes.

Bollywood heavyweights like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, and Raveena Tandon wished Happy Baisakhi only. Hema Malini wished a happy "Tamill New Year & also Baisakhi."

सत श्री अकाल जी साढ़ेवालों ते सारे परिवार वालों,बैसाखीदिया तेनु लख लख बधाइयां ! “While we celebrate Vaisakhi across India;rest of India wonders if it is just about doing Bhangra and dancing. No, it is not; Baisakhi holds a lesson for all Indians.Specially in these times.This day in 1699, in a congregation of people from all across India,listening to their Guru, Sree Gobind Rai. Gobind Rai asked for volunteers of five men as ready to sacrifice all that had, even life.Five men different parts of India stood up from the crowd of thousands.- A shopkeeper,called Daya Ram from Lahore, During the meeting at his place, Guru Gobind Singh asked for a volunteer to sacrifice his head for his brothers. Daya Ram offered his head and the Guru took him inside a tent and later emerged with a bloody sword. He again asked for a volunteer and repeated the feat. This went on. - A farmer, Jat called Dharam Das from Meerut - A water carrier, called Himmat Rai from Jagannath Puri, Odisha - A tailor,of Cheemba caste called Mukham Chand from Dwarka, Gujarat - A barber,called Sahib Chand from Bidar, Karnataka. At last, Guru emerged from the tent with the five volunteers and five headless goats were found in the tent. These five Sikh volunteers were named as Panj Pyaare or 'five beloved ones' by the Guru. The five volunteers were Daya Ram, also known as Bhai Daya Singh; Dharam Das, also known as Bhai Dharam Singh; Himmat Rai, also known as Bhai Himmat Singh; Mohkam Chand, also known as Bhai Mohkam Singh; and Sahib Chand, also known as Bhai Sahib Singh. They were the first Sikhs. With his choice of disciples from five different corners of India, Gobind Rai ji visualised the national dream,from the coast of Gujarat along Western Arabian Sea to coasts of Odisha along the Bay of Bengal; from the great Plains of Punjab to the the Gangetic Plain and then onto the Deccan peninsula covering Karnataka. Do not forget that at that time, all these were separate states; it was Guru Gobind Singh ji that thought of all of them as one... this Baisakhi day of 1699. With the choice of disciples from five different caste-groups, he visualised an integrated classless society. Baisakhi day of 1699.

Celebrations today ( of course in the safety of ur homes). It is Tamill New Year & also Baisakhi. Let us pray for a new corona free year where all normalcy is restored & we are able to resume all our frozen activities in a happy frame of mind, without any fear!?
