Idris Elba tests positive for coronavirus

The British actor is the latest celebrity to be found infected

Update : 17 Mar 2020, 01:07 AM

British actor Idris Elba said on Monday he has tested positive for coronavirus.

Elba said in a Twitter post that he had no symptoms so far, but was isolating himself from others, reports Reuters. It was not clear where he was located.

The 47-year-old — who starred in TV dramas “Luther” and “The Wire,” and Marvel’s "Avengers: Infinity War" and “Thor” franchise — joins the list of actors who recently tested positive, including Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, and Olga Kurylenko.

The latest celebrity to test positive for the coronavirus, Elba in a two-minute video posted with the tweet also said he took the test because he found out on Friday that he had been exposed to someone he knew who had contracted the disease.

“Look, this is serious,” he said, appearing next to his wife Sabrina. “Now is the time to really think about social distancing, washing your hands.”

“We live in a divided world right now. We can all feel it,” he added. “It’s been bulls–t. But now is the time for solidarity, now is the time for thinking about each other.”

"Stay positive. Don't freak out," he said in the video.

To his fans, he also wrote in the tweet: “Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing... No panic.”

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson announced last week that they both had contracted the disease while working on a film in Australia.
