Omar Sani, the defeated presidential candidate at the recently held election of Bangladesh Chalochitro Shilpi Samiti, has appealed for a repeal of its result. On Sunday, Sani submitted a written plea to Montajur Rahman Akbar, the head of the election commission, demanding cancellation of the election which took place last Friday.
In the meantime, Akbar has informed that the election commission has decided to re-count vote in response to Sani’s appeal. At the time of writing this story, vote counting is taking place for the second time in presence of members of the election commission and the appellate authority.
Within just 36 hours of the result announcement, a formal plea has been made to repeal the election through an objection letter in which Sani has made his comments on alleged irregularities in the election process.
Omar Sani alleged discrepancies in the vote counting. He pointed out that when the number of votes for each of the three presidential candidates are counted separately, they do not match the total number of votes counted.
Sani also mentioned the incident involving Shakib Khan, who was forcefully barred from the vote-counting centre. Sani said in his plea that Shakib Khan has every right to inspect the counting as the current president of the Shilpi Samiti, and he was forcefully prevented from visiting the counting centre.
On the other hand, the head of the election commission earlier said that under no circumstances Omar Sani can make any appeal to repeal the election but he can only ask for a vote re-count, which was going on at the time of writing this report.
Misha Sawdagar, known for playing villains in Dhallywood films, has been elected as the president of Bangladesh Chalochitro Shilpi Samiti.
Misha and Zayed Khan Panel were elected for a two years term in the initial result.
Misha got 259 votes while his nearest opponent Omar Sani got 153 votes. A total of 558 voters out of 624 participated in the voting.
