Bangladesh’s first surfing film No Dorai, meaning “I am not scared” in Chittagonian dialect, is scheduled to hit theatres in November, according to Star Cinplex chairman and producer of the film, Mahboob Rahman.

He made the announcement during the grand finale of Star BracU Short Film Contest 2019 at Star Cineplex in Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Dhaka on Thursday evening.

He also announced the online release of the film’s first soundtrack, titled Jontrona, which was released on the film’s official YouTube channel on the same evening. The track, penned, produced and performed by Mohon Sharif, was mastered by Amit Chaterjee.

Mahboob said at the event: “Star Cineplex had one mission during its 15-year journey – to get the Bangladeshi cinema lovers back to the theatres. Following that goal, Star Cineplex is producing their first film No Dorai-Dare to Surf which depicts the story of a young Bangladeshi girl who defies society's norms to follow her dream to become a surfer.

“The film has completed its production and we are hoping to release it in Bangladeshi theatres by November 25.”

The film, directed by Taneem Rahman Angshu, was shot by cinematographer Suman Sarker. Popular Bangladeshi singer Xefer Rahman is the project’s executive producer.

The film's official synopsis reads: "In a small beach town in Bangladesh, fearless Ayesha confronts social prohibition and violent opposition from her poverty-ridden family to surf. Like few other youngsters, she and her best friend Sohel are trained by self-made Bangladeshi surfer, Amir.

“As this unusual surfing enthusiasm gets international attention from surfing community and documentary film makers, fund money generates jealousy, squabbles, and power tussles. While surfing brings newfound fame and glory to Sohel, it is the 'prohibited' love for surfing that brings forced marriage and a life of misery for Ayesha. After seeking an extravagant, reckless lifestyle in the capital city, derailed Sohel returns to Cox's Bazar, where their passion for surfing reunites them and unleashes a new hope for surfing in the small beach town."

No Dorai features actor Shariful Raj and model Sunerah Binte Kamal in the lead roles.
