Watch: How 1917 was made in a single shot

Universal Pictures has recently released a behind the scenes video of their upcoming film 1917 which is based on the First World War. Filming of the massive project was accomplished with elaborately choreographed moving camera shots by Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049) to give the effect of one continuous take. 

Sam Mendes, the Oscar-winning director of Skyfall, Spectre and American Beauty, directed this World War I epic. 

1917 stars George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, with Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The film is produced by Neal Street Productions for DreamWorks Pictures in association with New Republic Pictures. 

Universal Pictures will do a limited release of the film domestically in the UK on December 25 and wide on January 10, 2020. 

Universal and Amblin Partners will distribute the film internationally, with eOne distributing on behalf of Amblin in the UK.

Previously, A single continuous shot take has been executed in Hollywood film history in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope and Alejandro Inarritu’s Birdman.
