Legendary West Bengal singer-songwriter, film director, and actor, Anjan Dutt’s play Salesman’er Shongshar was scheduled to be staged at Dhaka’s Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segunbagicha Tuesday evening.

Organizers confirmed that the venue has been changed to Baily Road at the last moment due to “venue related difficulties.”

Fariha from the event’s lead organizer, Bangladeshi publication house Chhapa Khanar Bhoot, told Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime: “We had to change the venue at the last moment due to a venue related issue. We are currently calling and texting all the people who bought tickets both online and through Kay Kraft’s Dhanmondi branch to inform them about the switch.

“The program has been shifted to Baily Road Mahila Samiti’s Dr Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium. Due to seating limitations at the new venue, we will host two shows for the audience. The time and seating arrangements for all tickets worth Tk1,500, Tk2,000 and Tk3,000 are being notified as we speak.

“If anyone who had bought tickets but have not received any notification yet, are requested to inbox at the official Facebook page of Chhapa Khanar Bhoot or Bar-Bee BD or call at 01721371938 to reconfirm their seats and show time.”

Chhapa Khanar Bhoot has also posted an official notice regarding the matter on their Facebook fan page.

The organizers also said, those who have not bought tickets can physically buy them at the newly selected Baily Road venue from morning till the beginning of the first show at 4:30pm on Tuesday (depending on availability).

The play Salesman’er Shongshar, directed by and starring Anjan Dutt, is an adaptation of Arthur Miller's famous play Death of a Salesman. Dutt himself will play the lead role of Willy Loman.

Salesman’er Shongshar was first staged in Kolkata in January, and was also staged at Kolkata’s Gyan Manch in April.

Although known for his music, Dutt is also an accomplished actor, having started his career in Bangla cinema. His first film was Chalachitro, directed by Mrinal Sen, for which he won the prize for the Best Newcomer in Acting at the Venice Film Festival. He also acted in Aparna Sen's hit film Mr and Mrs Iyer. In 2018, he featured in Swapnasandhani's play Taraye Taraye, as Vincent Van Gogh, under the direction of Kaushik Sen.

He is also a national award-winning filmmaker and is one of the most prominent directors of West Bengal, having directed acclaimed films such as The Bong Connection, Chalo-Let's Go, and Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona.

In recent years, he directed the Byomkesh Bakshi film series.
