PRFI to bring Hollywood to Bangladesh

PRFI claims these workshops with Hollywood industry professionals will give students the opportunity to find good local and international jobs

Update : 08 Jun 2019, 07:41 PM

The Puerto Rico Film Institute (PRFI)—an international educational institution in film and television with international resources—has announced the beginning of the process of registration for their next workshops in: acting for  cameras, producing, directing, production design, costume design, cinematography, lights for theatre, TV, and film. The workshops are due to start in Dhaka in August.

The workshops will be conducted by top-level professors and industry professionals from Hollywood; most of them are Oscar and Emmy Awards nominees or winners. This is the first time they are coming to teach in Bangladesh to support the Puerto Rico Film Institute.

PRFI claims these workshops with Hollywood industry professionals will give students the opportunity to find good local and international jobs — or even be recruited for top TV channels of the world.

The students will be given a chance to produce international quality productions with the Hollywood trainers. PRFI will distribute and exhibit the production at international film festivals around the world.

PRFI also promises to send the best production by the students to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to compete in the Foreign Film category at the Oscars.

The workshops will be divided into three levels. Level one is for the beginners who are university or high school students. Level two or Intermezzo is for people who can or want to teach film at a university. Level three is for the professionals who are already working in the field but need more tools and training to produce quality productions under the international quality parameter. People who are already producing local TV content, commercials, or music videos are welcome to register for level three.

The first workshop, titled “The Master Shot Acting in Front of The Camera with Kelly Galindo,” will start in August. Galindo is a Hollywood actor, director, and a distinguished professor of film acting and directing at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) — often considered the number one film school in the world. Galindo currently resides in Los Angeles and is actively involved with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), Actor's Equity Association (AEA), and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). In addition to her busy career as an actor, director, and academic, Galindo also serves as a jury member at the Best Picture nomination panel at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (Oscar).

She is also a member of Actors Studio—a world-renowned organization for professional actors, theatre directors, and playwrights—in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City.

Only 25 people will be selected to attend the workshop. Professional actors, models, TV anchors, and all others who want to learn and be up to date in education in front of the cameras are invited to apply for the workshop. The best performers in this workshop can travel to Los Angeles next year and audition with the top casting directors of Hollywood.

Interested participants for the first workshop, and upcoming workshops on: Hollywood grade high definition video or film, editing, production design, lighting, sound, costumes design may send their portfolio and application letter to Ruben Edgardo Vazquez of Puerto Rico Film Institute at [email protected].
