Renowned composer and music director Alauddin Ali was hospitalized on Tuesday night for a respiratory illness.

Ali was admitted to Universal Medical College and Hospital in Mohakhali, around 11:30pm, on Tuesday night. Later, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

His daughter, Alif Alauddin, told Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime: “Doctors will keep him under observation for 48 hours, until then we cannot say anything.”

“He has pneumonia, and his left lung has suffered damage because of this,” she added.

She also stated that the doctors have been running tests since he was admitted to the hospital.

Ali debuted as a music director through the film “Shondhikkhon” in 1975. In his 44-year-long career, Ali directed the music of over 300 films.

He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Music Director five times for the films: “Golapi Ekhon-Train Ey” in 1978, “Sundori” in 1979, “Koshai” in 1980, “Jogajog” in 1988, and “Lakhe Ekta” in 1990.

The veteran music director was born on December 24, 1952 at Banshbari village in Munshiganj district.

Ali's father, Jadob Ali, was a staff artiste at the Dhaka Radio Station. His uncle, Sadek Ali, and cousins—Dhir Ali Miah, Mansur Ali, Yunus Ali, and Momotaz Uddin— were music directors and composers for the radio during the 1960s.
