“Gondi” is a forthcoming film by director Fakhrul Arefeen Khan in which popular actor Suborna Mustafa will play the lead role of a 55-year-old single woman whose children live in London.

The director has sent the script to veteran Bollywood actor Naseruddin Shah, and if his schedule permits, he will star alongside Suborna in the film, which carries the tagline “Friendship has no boundary.”

As a substitute to Naseeruddin, the director has in his mind actor Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, who is popularly known as “Feluda” in the Kolkata Film Industry.

Talking about the film, Arefeen told the Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime: “Through this film, I tried to establish the philosophy that friendship has no age or boundaries.”

“We have sent the script to Naseeruddin, and are waiting for his response.”

“Both of them are brilliant actors (Naseeruddin and Sabyasachi), and perfect for the character,” Arefeen explained.

Based on Reza Arif’s script, the story of the film develops around a friendship between a 65-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, who develop emotions for each other. The film tells the stories of how their families react and how their friendship at this age is considered as a taboo in our society.

The director recently completed the shooting of the first part of the film in London while the rest will be shot in Cox's Bazar and Dhaka in March and August respectively.

The film also casts Aparna Ghose, Majnun Mizan, and child actor Fiona.

The National Award-winning independent filmmaker Fakhrul Arefeen Khan had earlier made a number of critically acclaimed documentaries like “Haq-er Ghar”, “Al Badar” and “The Speech.”

His second feature film “Bhuban Majhi,” was based on the Liberation War in 1971.
