Naseeruddin Shah to star in Bangladeshi sci-fi film

Update : 20 Dec 2021, 09:34 PM

Veteran Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah  has joined the cast of Bangladesh's first futuristic sci-fi feature film “Project Ommi”. Set in the year 2050, the story follows a hacker and digital artist who create a virtual AI child named Ommi in order to defeat criminals from the cyber world.

Shah has been confirmed to play a cult leader who is fighting robots replacing human workers.

The production was on pause due to the Covid-19 lockdown but will be returning full force next year. This time, the futuristic gadgets will not merely be displayed in the film, but are also being used to make the film. Director Amit Ashraf has converted his studio Kazi House Productions into a Hollywood-standard prop-making workshop complete with 3D printers, laser-cutters, VR previsulations and vacuum-form machines, all managed by a team of highly skilled prop-makers. The production team is creating a functional robot suit, inspired by Netflix’s critically acclaimed film “I Am Mother.”

Ashraf is best known for working on “Udhao,” “Blonde and Blondie in the Bush Bush” and “Apartment 5D” among other projects.

Naseeruddin Shah is the recipient of three National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards, the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan awards for his contributions to Indian cinema| Collected

Filming for “Project Ommi” will begin mid-2022 in Old Dhaka and is set to be one of the biggest cinematic projects in Bangladesh’s history. The team behind the film aims to take Bangladesh cinema to the world market with a film that can stand out both locally and globally, according to a press release.

The full cast has not been finalized yet. Hollywood actors, along with local actors are expected to join the cast. The project is currently casting for child and adult roles in Dhaka, fluent in both English and Bangla. To apply, follow this link.
