The premier talent-hunt competition “Notun Mukher Shondhane” will not happen this year.

It was heard from the beginning of this year, that “Notun Mukher Shondhane” will be happening this year. On September 16 the program was inaugurated in the presence of three influential ministers.

However, no further progress was made besides various announcements of the newest date of registration for participants. The last confirmed news is that the contest will not happen this year.

Some important people involved with the contest have revealed to various news media that many different problems exist in relation to the execution of the contest. They informed that there is no possibility of having the contest this year, while citing the upcoming national election and election of Bangladesh Film Director’s Association (BFDA).

Election of BFDA, one of the leading organizers of the competition, will be held either at the end of November or in December. On the other hand the national election will also be held on the last week of December.

However, the President of BFDA Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar had been announcing a new date for registration for the contest. He previously said that the auditions will begin this year, but now he has changed his position.

According to Gulzar, even if the registration begins this year, there is no possibility of holding auditions. He said, “Due to some issues with our website we are falling behind. We might be able to begin registration very soon. However, the auditions will not happen this year.”

Some sources among the organizers have said that the BFDA will be very busy with their own election. They also speculated that there could be some uncertainty due to the upcoming national elections, as the entire country will be busy with it. Therefore, the execution of the event will not be possible at that time, as per the sources.

“Notun Mukher Shondhane” contest was supposed to happen after 27 long years to find new talents for Bangladesh’s film industry. Therefore, the youth of the country were very expectant about this year’s competition.

The inauguration delayed till September, when it was officially held on the 16th of the month. Minister of Finance Abul Mal Abdul Muhith, Minister of Cultural Affairs Asaduzzaman Noor and State Minister of Post and Telecommunications Division inaugurated the competition on that occasion.

However the registration page was not opened at that time. It was announced at the time that the registration may open on September 18. Then it delayed to September 22. After that they announced first week of October, and then the second week, eventually the date just continued to be delayed without being finalized.

Notably, the fourth edition of “Notun Mukher Shondhane” is being dedicated to the deceased actor Manna. The competition will be organized through collaboration between BFDA and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). Asian TV is the competition’s broadcast partner and Off Track Events and Advertising and Team Engine will be managing the talent hunt.

Aside from new actors, “Notun Mukher Shondhane” is also supposed to search for talents in seven categories. The categories are “best hero,”“best heroine”“best actor”“best actress”“best villain”“best comedian” and “best child artiste.”

“Notun Mukher Shondhane” was organized by BFDC in 1984, 1988 and 1990. Through this competition popular actor Manna was discovered. Other film stars to be discovered through “Notun Mukher Shondhane” are Diti, Sohel Chowdhury, Misha Sawdagar, Amit Hasan, Amin Khan and many others.
