‘Dhaka DocLab’ begins in Dhaka

‘Dhaka DocLab’ is an initiative taken by the country’s film-makers to highlight Bangladeshi films in the world

The second edition of “Dhaka DocLab,” a workshop on documentary films, was inaugurated at the auditorium of Liberation War Museum in Dhaka yesterday.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor was chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, which was also attended by Dhaka DocLab Trustee Board Chairman Nasir Uddin Yousuf, Liberation War Musuem trustee and cultural personality Mofidul Haq, Documentary Research Initiative Kolkata founder Nilutpol Mojumder, and Dhaka DocLab director Tarek Ahmed, along with various international guests who will be trainers at the workshop."Dhaka DocLab" is an initiative taken by the country’s film-makers to highlight Bangladeshi films in the world. It is arranged by Dhaka DocLab, a South Asian platform for documentary film-making. 

The six-day workshop is divided into two segments. In the first segment, the participants will be divided into four groups and will be trained on the first three days of the workshop.  The international guests will provide mentorship for the participants in various technical aspects of film-making. 

In the second segment, 15 selected participants will pitch their co-produced projects in front of local and international producers, television broadcasters, commissioning editors, film distributors, film industry experts and representatives of film funding organizations.

Each of the selected participants will get 15 minutes to pitch their ideas, and will later get the opportunity to sit with the interested broadcasters, film donors, and film distributors to discuss the execution of their projects.

The workshop’s concluding ceremony will be held on September 5, with awards given out to the best film projects by the participants.
