Like the previous years, the 4th edition of the Joy Bangla Concert will lift its curtain again on March 7. Jointly organised by Young Bangla, leading youth organisation of Bangladesh and Center for Research and Information (CRI), a non profit policy research organization, the concert commemorates the historic March 7 Race-course speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Not only that the event has earned the reputation of the biggest musical extravaganza towards the youngsters of Bangladesh, it has also been creating a bridge between the youth and the history of the country.
According to the organizers, the event is “a firm call upon every young mind who truly believes in the spirit of freedom with which the War of Liberation was fought in 1971 and which drove an entire generation of young souls to sacrifice their lives for independence.”
They also focus to uplift the spirit of unity and patriotism of 7th-March blended with rock music and leverage this mega congregation of youth to rekindle the spirit of the great War of Liberation.
Every year, the participating bands recreate and perform one song each from the Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, the rebel radio station that kept up the morale of the freedom fighters as well as the whole nation during the liberation war in 1971. Many of the leading bands performing regularly at the event have included their rendition of Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra songs in their own albums as well.
This event also received immense popularity among the youth as it has been turned into the biggest rock music event in Bangladesh in terms of both online and offline audience presence with an average of around 35,000 fans each year while millions watch on social, online and mainstream media. Also the free to enter concert brings the biggest names of local rock and metal scene on the same stage.
Keeping with the tradition from the previous years, eight leading bands of the country- Powersurge, Arbovirus, Shunno, Nemesis, Cryptic Fate, Lalon, Chirkutt and Artcell will be performing in the show.
This year’s celebration will be more significant as UNESCO recognised the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu as part of the world’s documentary heritage at the end of 2017.
This is also the first time Young Bangla took the musical show outside Dhaka covering Sylhet and Khulna on March 2 and 5 respectively. The tour titled ‘Road to 7th March Concert’ was held on Friday at the Abul Mal Abdul Muhit Sports Complex playground with the performance of the leading rock bands Mechanix and Nemesis who performed again on Monday (March 5) at the Circuit House ground in Khulna.

The main event will be held at the Army Stadium of capital’s Banani as previous years and anyone can register through the Young Bangla website with their national ID card, mobile phone number and email address to get their free entry passes till March 6. The gates at the venue will open at 1.30pm of March 7.
