Anonno Mamun released from Malaysian detention, will return home on Saturday

Update : 12 Jan 2018, 10:33 PM
Malaysian authorities have released Bangladeshi filmmaker and screenwriter Anonno Mamun on Thursday, who was detained last month on charges of human trafficking. He will return to Bangladesh on Saturday, confirmed the director himself. “I will return to Bangladesh on Saturday,” he said during a phone conversation. “I have been played by some people. The authorities here [Malaysia] are looking for real culprits now….will reveal everything once I return.” According to the “Most Welcome” director, Malaysian police detained him purely out of suspicion. “They [Malaysian police] did not press any charges against me. I was found innocent after thorough investigation. The police also sent a letter to the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur in this connection,” Mamun said. Mamun, along with 19 others, was detained by Malaysian anti-trafficking authorities on December 24 last year. He organized a cultural event in Kuala Lumpur for Bangladeshi expatriates there, which showcased 48 top Bangladeshi showbiz personalities and celebrities. In the wake of the accusations brought against him, the filmmaker was slapped with a lifetime ban by the Bangladesh Directors’ Association on December 30.
