The stories of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle has been very popular as adaptations for the stage, and later film, and still later television, ever since the books and novels came out. The four-volumes of the “Universal Sherlock Holmes" (1995), compiled by Ronald B De Waal, has been transformed into over 25,000 Holmes-related productions and products. A Sherlock spin-off, "Elementary,” was launched in the US featuring Jonny Lee Miller in the title role and Lucy Liu as Dr Watson in 2012. Benedict Cumberbatch is featured as Sherlock in the BBC One rendition of the books, alongside Martin Freeman as Dr Watson. Set in present-day London, 13 episodes of "Sherlock" have been produced so far, with the four three-part series airing from 2010 to 2017. A special episode had also aired on January 1, 2016. Apart from receiving critical acclaim, with many reviews praising the quality of the writing, performances, and direction, "Sherlock" was nominated for numerous awards including the Emmys, BAFTAs and Golden Globe, winning several awards across a variety of categories.
