Ushering in a new era of connectivity and transportation

For citizens of any nation, good transportation and connectivity should be the very minimum that they can expect

Update : 09 Sep 2023, 10:22 AM

It is heartwarming to see the successful trial run for the upcoming inauguration of the Padma Rail Link Project, which is sure to be another milestone for enhancing the transportation network of Bangladesh.

This railway line, which is set to connect Dhaka, the capital city, with the southwestern district of Jessore, is poised to be a game-changer in the country's development narrative and will undoubtedly bolster transportation, trade, and ultimately create new opportunities for economic growth for the country.

Bangladesh's economy has of course been on an upward trajectory for the better part of 15 years now, but with graduation from a least developed country imminent and with bold ambitions set, it is projects such as the Padma Rail Link that will have the compounding effect required for the country to fulfill those ambitions.

Our national transportation infrastructure has been in dire need of improvement for some time now and we can only hope that this is the beginning of the authorities concerned to truly prioritize this area.

A few days ago, this newspaper editorialized on the plans to introduce hundreds of eco-friendly buses to replace the current fleet. It is an exciting time to see these changes being implemented and see the transformation within the transportation network of the country, which, to reiterate, has been a long time coming.

To that end, we hope that, as Bangladesh continues to climb the economic ladder, we simultaneously see our transportation reflect that of a nation that is making the sort of progress Bangladesh currently is. For citizens of any nation, good transportation and connectivity should be the very minimum that they can expect.
