A good portion of the nation has already come under the protection of vaccines, and it is good to see the authorities continuing with their efforts.
On that note, the nationwide booster dose campaign for Covid-19 that is set to kick off on Saturday is one more step towards complete inoculation for Bangladeshis against this rampaging disease that is still crippling other, more well-off nations.
Eligible people aged 18 and above can get the booster dose at nearby vaccine centres, provided they have received the second dose of the vaccine at least four months prior, the DGHS issued a circular on Tuesday.

To reiterate, it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to this disease. Most of the world has carried out booster drives to further reinforce existing vaccination, and some are even thinking about a fourth dose. It is good to our administration taking the necessary pro-active steps in that regard.
There have been reports of overcrowding in vaccination centres and other irregularities, meaning that arranging drives like this repeatedly and spacing them out from each other should be an effective and efficient method of bringing the whole nation under the safety of the booster dose. While most people appear to be vaccinated, there is a good chunk of people that still haven’t received the booster dose. To that end, drives like this are truly beneficial.
Bangladesh’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic has been nothing short of exemplary. Hopefully, with a few more operations like this, our nation can finally reach the level of herd immunity that is necessary to once and for all stamp out the threat of this deadly virus.
