There is no arguing the fact that the recent energy crisis plaguing the nation is an unfortunate step backward, but at the same time, it also allows us to look at our energy sourcing methods in a fresh light.
We have been relying on fossil fuel-based power generation methods like coal-based power generation for too long. Not only is this unreliable and expensive, but as an at-risk nation from climate change such as Bangladesh, this sends the wrong message.
As such, this recent energy crisis is the perfect opportunity for us to pivot towards greener and more renewable energy generation sources such as solar energy.
Thankfully, the crisis has already worked as a stimulus for various companies to start going into the green energy business. To that end, it has been encouraging to see a number of solar billboards that have been installed throughout the capital to decrease the strain that is currently being put on the national power grid.
Of course, the end goal for a sustainable nation would be to do away with billboards altogether, but for the time being, this is a pragmatic solution. The main takeaway here is that organizations are willing to rely on green energy generation methods for their own consumption. If this continues, we can hope to see most of the industrial sector of the country focusing on the utilization of green energy for their internal operations. And when commercial demand for green energy reaches such a height, the supply for green energy cannot be far behind.
This is an initiative that deserves praise. The government should also offer incentives for out-of-the-box solutions like this that prioritize the usage of sustainable energy.
