What is wrong with us?
When a teenage boy gets assaulted in the most unspeakably horrific fashion for talking to a girl, we really have to question some of the values that still exist in our society.
It is not enough to say that the men who brutalised the boy -- by sticking a nail into his genitals and beating him senseless -- were merely bad seeds, or that they do not represent society as a whole.
The fact is, we still live by and large in a culture where the rights of people, especially children, are not respected, and violence is seen as an acceptable way to deal with any kind of disagreement.
It is time, as a society, to take a long, hard look in the mirror.
