As the country goes through its extended lockdown period, what must be remembered is that, despite being stuck at home, people continue to lead their lives and thus, still require goods and services.
To that end, delivery services have been absolutely crucial during this period, and everyone involved in the delivery business -- be it government services or privately-owned enterprises -- deserves immense respect and credit for being there for the people during these dire times.
Recently, the Bangladesh Post Office introduced mobile post office services, delivering valuable parcels, letters, documents, and even medicines and medical equipment directly to people’s homes.
While the government deserves credit for such a forward-thinking venture, equal credit must be given to the private organizations within the country who have continued to provide deliveries to people, be they food, groceries, medicine, or other necessities.
This includes the young entrepreneurs and CEOs in the country’s burgeoning start-up culture, who have utilized the power of technology to reach the people through their mobile app-based services.
Just as significant, if not more, are the delivery people on the streets, on their bicycles, motorbikes, and other means of transport, who are risking their lives to ensure that people can stay home and have their daily necessities delivered to their doorsteps.
Technology has been a great enabler for Bangladesh, and despite our very difficult situation, it is technologically-driven solutions that are coming to our aid and providing some respite.
What remains important is that we continue to support these enterprises, and do our part by staying at home, and staying safe.
