RU student killed in road accident

A female student of Rajshahi University has been killed when her scarf got stuck with the engine of a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Jhalmalia area under Puthia upazila in Rajshahi on Tuesday.

The deceased was Rukaiya Khatun, 21, a second year student of Islamic History and Culture Department of the RU.

Relative of the victim Mizanur Rahman said: “Rukaiya along with her mother was going to Puthia around11:30am by an easy-bike for submitting an application for the post of primary school teacher. Suddenly, she fell from the auto-rickshaw after her scarf got stuck with the engine of the battery-run vehicle, leaving her injured.”

“Critically injured Rukaiya rushed to Puthia Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared her dead.”

Faridul Islam Khan, officer-in-charge of Natore Sadar police station told the Dhaka Tribune that the body has been handed over to the family members.

RU Vice-Chancellor Professor Mizanuddin, Pro VC Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan and Islamic History Department Chairman Prof Syeda Nure Kaseda expressed profound sorrow and shock at the death of the female student.
