As Dhaka traffic continues to go haywire, increasing the fuel mileage is the best way to protect your wallet. While we can't do anything about the traffic jam, we can offer you a few tips that will aid to increase your car's fuel economy.

Follow these simple tips to improve efficiency and get the best mileage from your car.

Lose the junk 

For every 50 extra kilos of weight in your vehicle, you lose about one to two percent of fuel economy. So get rid of that extra junk in your trunk!

Slow isn't always bad 

Driving over 100 km/h can limit your fuel economy. For every 10 km/h over, your fuel efficiency gets reduced by one-fifth.

Keep an auto log 

Keep a tally of your fuel fill-ups and oil changes. This way you'll know if you fuel-economy begins to drop. And if it does, then you can bring it to your mechanic's attention.

A/C over windows 

We have been made to believe that rolling down the windows is more fuel-efficient than using the A/C. However, it is wise to use you're A/C while on the highway because windows create too much drag.

Fine footwork 

Not being able to keep a steady pressure on the accelerator causes cause excessive gas consumption. This happens because many drivers use their toe to accelerate instead of their entire foot, making it more difficult to keep the steady pressure. Ease-up and drive flat-footed!

Go easy on the air 

Running the A/C imposes an extra load on the engine, and consumes a large amount of fuel. On average, driving a vehicle with its A/C on, inside the city reduces its fuel economy by 20 percent.

Keeping the tyres in-check 

Underinflated tyres aren't just dangerous; they can eat up your fuel economy by as much as 25%. Overinflated tyres aren't efficient, either.
