After a month of fasting, heavy meals are often consumed on the day of Eid.
Additionally, the heat has intensified; as a result, sudden consumption of rich foods like polao, korma, and biryani can lead to indigestion, gastric issues, diarrhea, or food poisoning, reports Bangla Tribune.
Nutritionist Fatema Farhana warns that overeating during Eid increases the risk of various health problems.
She also shared some tips to stay healthy during Eid:
Keep Eid breakfast light
Since Eid morning marks the first meal after a month of structured fasting, overeating or consuming random foods is not advisable.
It is crucial to keep the breakfast light. Opt for milk-based payesh or fruit juice, thin paratha or roti without oil, and vegetable stir-fry.
Limit meat consumption
Eid meals often include various meat dishes.
However, excessive meat consumption can cause constipation, increased cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, piles, fissures, and uric acid issues.
Therefore, try to consume meat in moderation.
Include easily digestible meals
Instead of eating biryani or polao at every meal during Eid, aim to have at least one easily digestible meal.
Add variety to meals
Meat does not have to be the only item on the menu. Delicious dishes can also be prepared with fish.
White polao or khichuri with chicken can be a good option for a meal.
Include green salad and yogurt with every meal.
Avoid soft drinks
Avoid soft drinks. Instead, opt for yogurt-based drinks or cumin water.
Borhani is also a preferred alternative.
Avoid resting immediately after heavy meals
After consuming heavy meals, avoid resting or sleeping immediately.
This prevents the body from burning calories and can slow down digestion, leading to issues like acid reflux.
Reduce fat, oil, and spices in cooking
Since Eid celebrations include cooking multiple beef or mutton dishes, try to remove fat completely before cooking.
Also, avoid excessive oil and spices.
