The park officer claimed these are only leopards in any zoo or park in Bangladesh

A pair of leopards now inhabits Gazipur’s Sheikh Mujib Safari Park.

The two big cats were delivered by the RAB on Sunday afternoon, who rescued the endangered animals from a smuggler in Narayanganj. The leopards, one male and one female, are two years old. They are currently under observation at the park, according to acting Park Officer Abdul Motaleb.

The park officer claimed these are only leopards in any zoo or park in Bangladesh. The Dhaka Tribune has not been able to independently confirm the claim.

He also said: “They should be able to procreate from the age of three. However, they are susceptible to various diseases, so we have had to separate them from the tigers at the park. After a three-week period of care, they will be released to the main enclosure.”

At a press briefing after the handover, a RAB spokesperson said: “The two leopards were rescued from the house of one Shawkat Imran Mithu in Fatullah, Narayanganj. They were going to be smuggled out of the country. We have arrested two people, including the owner of the house, but one of their accomplices managed to get away.”
