Smartphones adorn rickshaw art

Update : 02 Jul 2017, 01:53 AM
Bangladesh is a veritable treasure trove of scintillating heritage, every aspect of which experiences a resurgence from time to time to evolve and resonate among generations. Rickshaw art has been a staple in our culture since the mid-20th century. The paintings on the back of man-pulled rickshaws across the country exuded vivacity akin to Andy Warhol’s pop art. The vibrant colours, the exposition, and the commonplace sighting transformed it from mere decoration to the cultural icon it is today.BF-MaThe Dhaka Tribune reached out to Biskut Factory and spoke to founder-entrepreneur Biskut who explained what the Biskut Factory is and how it functions. The design house is renowned for their customised smartphone covers in the style of rickshaw art.BF-LipsFor over a year, the eponymous brainchild of Biskut has been hard at work to customise day-to-day items with a rickshaw art finish. Smartphone covers may be their most popular range of products, but also try their hands at pants, bags, shoes, quilts and any surface that can be painted. Biskut Factory is the sum of three talented and dedicated individuals who pool their skills and make the most of them. Their friends, families and affiliates often lend a hand, thus the owner’s insistence that all their products are of Biskut Factory, not of any individual’s.BF-Jeans  Biskut says they buy normal smartphone covers available from the market and then proceed to paint them. The avant-garde, postmodern approach to the iconic cultural heritage has been lauded with great fanfare. Biskut Factory has publicly appeared in a number of open house exhibitions, including MIB – Made in Bangladesh meet-ups. Biskut Factory has ambitions to open up an outlet in Dhaka in the near future. But for now, they are operating from their Facebook page, as well as going strong on Instagram.BF-FridaFor the curious who take delight in collecting curios, Biskut Factory is open to receiving orders online on their Facebook page to deliver to the buyer’s address.
