Remittance inflow declines in June

Remittance receipts in June were $2.806 billion, as against $3.425 billion in May

Update : 01 Jul 2026, 06:08 PM

In the just-ended month of June, remittance receipts in the country were about $2.81 billion, which is $619 million less than in May.

At the same time, it is also $23 million less than in June last year.

According to the updated data of Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday (July 1), remittances in the country in June were $2.806 billion.

In the previous month, expatriates sent $3.425 billion in May. In June 2025, this figure was $2.823 billion.

Central bank executive director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan confirmed this information.

According to Bangladesh Bank data, remittances were more than $3 billion for six consecutive months from December of FY26.

In December, $3.22 billion was received, in January $3.17 billion, in February $3.01 billion, in March $3.75 billion, in April $3.12 billion and in May $3.43 billion.

However, remittances decreased to $2.81 billion in June, the last month of the fiscal year. As a result, expatriate income fell below $3 billion again after six consecutive months.

Although the pace of remittances slowed slightly in June, the picture for the entire fiscal year was very positive.

In FY26, expatriates sent a total of $35.56 billion in remittances to the country, which is 17.30% more than the $30.33 billion in the previous fiscal.

According to Bangladesh Bank data, the lowest remittances were received in June in the last eight months.

However, the overall strong remittance flow has played an important role in maintaining the country's foreign exchange reserves, meeting import costs and maintaining a stable exchange rate.

Economists say remittances may have declined slightly in June due to post-Eid seasonal effects and normal fluctuations in employment in various destination countries. However, they expect the flow of expatriate income to pick up again in the coming months.
