Standard Chartered Bangladesh has completed a wide range of agricultural initiatives in partnership with Thengamara Mohila Sabuj Sangha (TMSS) in Bogura, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Joypurhat, Sirajganj, Patuakhali, Pabna and Faridpur.
These initiatives are driving productivity across rural farming communities by providing beneficiaries with innovative, climate-adaptive farming practises, a variety of seeds, machineries and other technical support.
Standard Chartered Bangladesh contributed more than Tk63 million to implement these initiatives.
Around 100,000 farmers have directly benefited through these programmes. A total of 300 polyhouses were established to drive high value sapling production. Additionally,1500kg vegetable seed and 300kg watermelon seed were distributed among farmers as quality input support. The programmes also helped to utilise 280 hectares of mostly fallow land for onion cultivation and 330 hectares of land for sunflower production.
Overall 125,000 trees were planted throughout these initiatives to help support the livelihood of the farmers.
Bitopi Das Chowdhury, country head of Corporate Affairs and Brand and Marketing, Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said: “We are delighted to be able to support around 100,000 farmers across eight districts with modern technology and sustainable farming practices. These initiatives are driving agricultural productivity by delivering skills training, technology, and quality inputs. We are investing in improving knowledge and skills of farmers with the aim to promote sustainable improvements in agriculture.”
With around 120 years of commitment to Bangladesh’s growth, Standard Chartered continues to champion initiatives that promote sustainable development in critical sectors like agriculture, environment, health and education.
The bank remains dedicated to investing in communities, expanding services, and creating new opportunities, while fostering inclusive and sustainable growth across Bangladesh.
