The Bangladesh Chess Federation is organizing a chess tournament sponsored by Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC.
The tournament will start on Saturday and will last for nine days, ending on March 23.
A press conference to provide details about the tournament was held on Thursday, at the Bangladesh Chess Federation's sports room, located on the third floor of the old building of the National Sports Council.
Former secretary and President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Syed Shahabuddin Ahmed, delivered a written statement at the press conference.
Also speaking at the event were FM Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn), senior executive director of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC; Md Rabiul Islam Milton, additional executive director; and Lokman Hossain Mollah (Lavlu), joint secretary of the Bangladesh Chess Federation.
It was announced at the press conference that the official inauguration ceremony for the event would take place on Saturday at the sports room of the Bangladesh Chess Federation.
Immediately following the opening ceremony, the first round of games will commence.
Participation in the tournament is open to all, and interested players are instructed to submit their names, along with the required entry fee, to the Bangladesh Chess Federation by Friday.
The tournament will be conducted over nine days in nine rounds following the Swiss-league system.
Winners will receive cash prizes totaling Tk1.5 lakh, along with Walton products.
