Nine student entrepreneurs compete in UCB presents 9th GSEA Bangladesh semifinal

The global prize money is $50,000 for 1st place, $20,000 for 2nd place and $10,000 for third place

Global Student Entrepreneurs Awards (GSEA) powered by Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) is the world’s largest annual award program of student entrepreneurs who own and run businesses while attending college or university and compete with their peers worldwide. 

This year, in collaboration with United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB), the Bangladesh chapter (EO Bangladesh) is hosting this competition nationwide and holding the semifinal round at Six Seasons Hotel on Sunday at 5pm. 

Amer Salim, director Knit Asia Ltd Chair- GSEA Bangladesh and his Co-Chair Hasnat Mosharraf- director of Standard Group, inaugurated the program; nine student entrepreneurs joined the semifinal and presented their business. 

They were Shawkat Osman Shishir from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) presented his business cardicare, Fahim Shahariar from Pundra University of Science and Technology (PUB) of his business Romatoo, Zinan Ishmam and Md Shadid Al Hadi from North South University presented their businesses Oitijjho Express and Lumocity, Soumik Hasan Shranto and Shanen Anne Gomes    from Brac University presented their businesses Dubotech and Rindco. 

Leathers, Al Amin Mia from Green University of Bangladesh for his business Defensive Women, Muhaiminul Haque Shoaib of IU International University of Applied Science for his business Watt Motors, Muhammed Mohiuddin Sourav from Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka for his business Wastech.

The judges were the Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Argentina- Leandro Gabardi, MD and CEO of Satori Ltd Shaon Tanvir, and MD of Panama Sonamasjid Port Link Ltd- Nawshaba Khan.

Faatin Haque, president of EO Bangladesh andSafat Newaz, vice president from UCB, announced the names of two finalists: Soumik Hasan Shranto and  Muhammed Mohiuddin Soura,v who qualified for the Grand Finale of the Bangladesh Chapter scheduled on 19th January. 

The chairman of Trade Design Solution Ltd and president of EO Bangladesh congratulated the finalists and appreciated the contestants for their effort of choosing to be entrepreneurs and solving social problems that future Bangladesh can rely on. 

Since 2016, EO Bangladesh has been organizing this business contest for student entrepreneurs, where the winner competes globally to represent Bangladesh. In 2019, Naziba Naila Wafa from Brac University, for her business Resurgence, won Social Impact Prize at the GSEA International Finals.

The chapter final is on January 19, 2025 and the champion will win the prize money of Tk5 lakh. Earlier last year, EO Bangladesh arranged an awareness campaign with North South University, BRAC University, Daffodil University, Ulab University etc. 

The global prize money is $50,000 for 1st place, $20,000 for 2nd place and $10,000 for third place.
