In the evolving landscape of electric vehicles (EVs) in Bangladesh, the 2024 BYD Seal 3.8S emerges as a beacon of innovation and luxury, signalling a paradigm shift in the automotive landscape. From its ocean-inspired exterior to its striking interior, this vehicle embodies a fusion of cutting-edge technology and opulence.
Here is a closer look into how it works, customer feedback, pricing, running costs, and its environmental and economic advantages.
BYD, a prominent new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, entered the Bangladesh market in March with the all-electric BYD Seal. The brand has now unveiled the pricing for both variants of the BYD SEAL – the Extended variant is priced at Tk89.90 lakh and the Performance variant (AWD) is Tk99.90 lakh.
Exterior and interior features
The BYD Seal 3.8S exudes a sleek and futuristic design characterized by smooth lines and aerodynamic contours, not only enhancing aesthetics but also contributing to improved efficiency. LED headlights seamlessly integrate with the overall design, radiating sophistication, while subtle chrome accents add an extra touch of elegance.

At the rear, sleek taillights complete a cohesive design language that leaves a lasting impression. Drawing inspiration from the serene beauty of the ocean, both the exterior and interior of the BYD Seal 3.8S envelop occupants in a tranquil ambiance. Soft, ocean-inspired hues dominate the cabin, fostering a sense of relaxation and harmony.
Premium materials like leather and sustainable wood accents elevate the luxury quotient, ensuring comfort during long journeys with ergonomic seats.
The infotainment system of the BYD Seal 3.8S is a standout feature, seamlessly integrating advanced technology to enhance the driving experience. Its intuitive interface offers easy access to a wide array of functions, including navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings.
The high-resolution touchscreen display provides crisp graphics but in my opinion, could be a bit more responsive.
With connectivity options such as Bluetooth, USB, and smartphone integration, occupants can stay connected and entertained on the go. Additionally, voice command functionality adds convenience, allowing users to control various features without taking their hands off the wheel.
However, our video review identified a few areas for improvement. For instance, accessing the vehicle can be challenging due to the low roofline, and the rear seat arrangement, particularly the unnatural position of the knee rest, may pose discomfort during longer journeys.
Performance
The driving experience of the BYD Seal 3.8S Performance variant is nothing short of exhilarating. Equipped with advanced all-wheel drive technology, this variant offers exceptional power and agility, ensuring a dynamic and responsive ride on any road surface.

Whether navigating through city streets or tackling challenging terrain, the Seal's Performance variant delivers instantaneous torque delivery and precise handling, providing drivers with a sense of confidence and control. With its seamless combination of power, efficiency, and exhilaration, this variant sets a new standard for electric vehicles, promising an engaging driving experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Pricing and running costs
With a price tag of Tk99.9 lakh, the BYD Seal 3.8S positions itself as a premium offering in the EV market. Despite the initial investment, long-term savings in running costs make it a compelling choice for discerning buyers. With a battery capacity of 82.5 kWh, it offers a maximum range of 570km, suitable for daily commutes and long-distance travel alike.
However, a more realistic mileage would be to expect around 450-480km, based on Dhaka’s notorious traffic commute. But this is still a good bargain and bang for the buck, compared to other EVs and hybrid models available in the country.

In terms of running costs, the BYD Seal 3.8S outperforms conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles significantly. Charging the vehicle from 0-100% amounts to approximately Tk1,206, translating to Tk2.12 per kilometer driven. In comparison, a similar ICE vehicle running on octane fuel incurs a cost of Tk18 per kilometer.
Verdict
In conclusion, the 2024 BYD Seal 3.8S epitomizes electric luxury, blending technology, design, and performance seamlessly. With its striking features, ocean-inspired aesthetics, and impressive range, it sets a new standard for EVs.
While the initial investment may be higher, the substantial savings in running costs make it a wise and sustainable choice for the future. As EV infrastructure expands, the BYD Seal 3.8S is poised to lead the charge towards a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
