Card-based foreign currency transactions hit an all-time high of Tk397 crore in June.
This happened due to the number of people using their credit cards while travelling abroad.
According to Bangladesh Bank data, card-based foreign currency transactions increased to Tk397 crore in June from Tk356.6 crore in May.
In June 2021, the foreign currency transactions were Tk125.3 crore only.
The transactions crossed Tk300 crore for the first time in May after reaching Tk280 crore in March 2022.
Bankers said that people mostly used foreign currency from their debit and credit cards during their travels abroad.
Travellers used foreign currency to mostly pay for airfares, hotels, restaurants and shoppinh.
Under Bangladesh Bank rules, each cardholder can spend up to $12,000 a year as their personal entitlement.
The foreign currency transactions are increasing day by day as many people are travelling abroad after the lifting of Covid-centric travel restrictions.
In addition, more and more people found it safe and easy to use cards rather than bearing cash currency notes.
Due to the recent dollar crisis, the central bank suggested travellers use cards instead of buying for dollars at high prices.
