Forum leadership in BGMEA celebrated International Women’s Day 2022 in the capital by recognizing six women leaders for their outstanding contribution in the readymade garments (RMG) sector in different categories.
In honour of this year's theme of 'Break the Bias’ on International Women’s Day, Forum leadership in BGMEA has celebrated this day with all the strong women who have indomitable spirits and who are making a statement by breaking the bias and reaching new heights with their every move, reads a press release.
According to the Forum, Leading the Way M Noorul Quader Award went to Chairperson of Desh Group of Companies Rokeya Quader, Breaking the Barriers Award to Managing Director of Ibrahim Knit Garments Kaniz Fatema Reema, Next-Gen Award to Managing Director of Shinest Group Samiha Azim, Heartfelt Tribute to Immediate Past President of BGMEA, and Vice-Chancellor of Asian University for Women Dr Rubana Huq, Heartfelt Tribute to Vice-Chairperson of Evince Textiles Limited Shabnam Shehnaz Chowdhury and Special Achievement Award to Managing Director of Zalo Knitting Nuria Lopez.
Forum President Md Abdus Salam said that they are really honoured to arrange a get together on this month of International Women's Day as a token of appreciation for the indomitable women who are breaking the bias and reaching new heights with their every move in the RMG sector.
Forum Panel Leader Faisal Samad said that this was a heartwarming program with interactive stories from senior and future woman leaders of the RMG industry.
“We are looking forward to arranging more programs like this in coming times,” he added.
They also said that the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is one of the major trade associations in the country representing the readymade garment industry.
Starting its journey in 1983, BGMEA now takes care of an industry that is the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy.
Since its inception, BGMEA is dedicated to promoting and facilitating the apparel industry through policy advocacy to the government, services to members, ensuring workers’ rights and social compliance at factories, they added.
The speakers also said that BGMEA collaborates with local and international stakeholders, including brands and development partners to pave the way for the development of the Bangladeshi apparel industry.
