The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested six Rohingyas who were smuggling yaba from Satkania in Chittagong.

They were detained at a checkpost at the entrance to Satkania from Cox's Bazar on Thursday. At the time 5,390 pieces of yaba were recovered from them.

The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Tarek 19, Mohammad Abdur Shukkur 14, Mohammad Nur Hasan 14, Bashir Ahmed 14, Mohammad Ayas 13, and  Shamsul Alam, 14.

They had all come from Teknaf Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar, according to Nurul Absar, senior assistant director of RAB-7.

He said a checkpost was set up in Satkania on the basis of secret information that a large consignment of yaba was going to Chittagong from Cox's Bazar. When a bus was stopped for inspection at around 8.30pm, RAB personnel interrogated the teenagers as their behavior appeared suspicious.

At one point, one of the six detainees vomited out nine packets of yaba. Later, X-rays were done at Chittagong Medical College Hospital and yaba packets were found in the stomachs of the others as well.

Another 101 packets of yaba were recovered from the rest. The estimated price is Tk16 lakh.

They have primarily confessed that they used to collect yaba from Myanmar, store it in camps and smuggle it to different parts of the country.

They have been handed over to Satkania police station for further legal action, said Nurul Absar.
