Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the current chair of D-8, has voiced his opinion in favour of expanding the organization through inducting more countries.
During a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in Ankara, the Turkish president also agreed to participate in the virtual D-8 summit to be organised by Bangladesh in January next year, according to the Foreign Ministry.
The D-8, also known as Developing-8, is an organization for economic cooperation between eight Muslim majority countries -- Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
During the meeting, the Turkish leader put forward a proposal on allocation of land so that Turkey could construct a modern hospital in Bangladesh.
Both the foreign minister and the president expressed their resolve to advance the Dhaka-Ankara relationship to new heights.
Expressing satisfaction at the state of existing relations between the two countries, they concluded that the ongoing cooperation in the fields of defence, education and culture was strong.
Emphasising the enhancement of trade relations, Erdogan put forward some specific proposals, including investment in textiles, medicine and other products.
He held out the assurance that Turkey would be at Bangladesh's side with respect to the Rohingya crisis.
The Turkish president expressed his interest to come to Bangladesh at the earliest after the Covid-19 pandemic on the occasion of the inauguration of the newly constructed embassy building of Turkey in Dhaka.
