Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has pushed back six Rohingyas, three women and three children who were trying to enter Bangladesh on Friday.
They were sent back to Myanmar from the Nayapara border in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila, in the early hours.
"A BGB team of the Hila Nayapara camp in Teknaf, led by Nayek Subedar Md Shah Alom, detained six Rohingyas who were crossing the Hila Nayapara border near the Naf River to enter Bangladesh. Later, they were sent back to Myanmar through the same border,'' said Shariful Islam Jomaddar, deputy commanding officer of BGB 2 Battalion in Teknaf.
Earlier, 22 Rohingyas were also sent back by BGB when they were caught trying to enter Bangladesh within a space of two weeks.
“We will not allow any Rohingyas to enter Bangladesh any more. We have beefed up surveillance along the Myanmar border to stop the influx of Rohingyas entering our territory,” added Jomaddar.
The ones that remain in Myanmar are living under extreme duress and this is why they want to cross the border into Bangladesh repeatedly, explained Mohammad Alom, chairman of the Teknaf Leda Rohingya camp.
Robiul Hasan, Teknaf upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), said: "Rohingyas keep trying to enter Bangladesh through the border occasionally, but we have put BGB on high alert.''
Over 1.1 million Rohingyas are living in a number of refugee camps at Teknaf and Ukhiya upazilas in Cox’s Bazar.
Over 700,000 of them crossed the border and ended up at the coastal district fleeing the brutal persecution carried out by Myanmar security forces, local Buddhist mobs and people from different ethnic groups since August 25, 2017.
