The state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) have discovered gas in Bhola North-2 well.
The production rate of the gas from the well will be determined after the final testing. However, Bapex is optimistic about the gas production at a potential rate of 20(+/-) mmscfd.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid thanked Bapex and said that the gas exploration program should be carried out as planned.
Petrobangla has planned to drill a total of 46 exploration, development and workover wells during the period 2022-25.
The state minister said that the government is working to ensure energy security while ordering further expansion of gas exploration and extraction activities.
Along with increasing domestic energy exploration activities, long-term and short-term contracts with gas and oil producing countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Brunei are also ongoing.
Sources said that on December 5, 2022, the well excavation work of Bhola North-2 started and the digging work was completed successfully on January 17, 2023 at a depth of 3,400.28 meters.
