New gas connection for customers who already paid fees demanded

They also demanded to rehabilitate the workers who lost job due to sudden shutdown of gas connection activities across Bangladesh

Consumer-gas pipeline construction contractors have demanded to provide gas connection to customers who have paid their fee as per the government norms.

The demand was announced in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday from a human chain organized by Grahok-Gas Pipeline Nirman Thikadar Oikya Federation, reports Bangla Tribune.

Contractors from human chain said that the six subsidiary companies of Petrobangla (Titas, Karnaphuli, Bakhrabad, Jalalabad, Pashchimanchal, Sundarbans) across Bangladesh have collected connection fees and deposits from 215,000 customers by following government regulations. Customers are still on the waiting list due to non-provision of gas connection at the next stage.

They insisted on giving connections to those customers in the fastest time.

If the demands are not met, the protesters threatened to wage a stronger movement. “If the authorities do not provide gas connection soon, we will be forced to carry out intense protest programs with disadvantaged customers across Bangladesh,” they said.

They also demanded the rehabilitation of the contractors who lost job due to sudden shutdown of gas connection activities across Bangladesh without notice.

“Around 2,300 contractors and hundreds of thousands of people working in the gas connection related work became unemployed. They are living a miserable life with their families due to lack of financial income. All contractors and all officials engaged in this field should be rehabilitated,” they said.

The organization's president Abul Hashem Patwari, general secretary AKM Oli Ulla Haque and others were present at the human chain.
