Being voters, former exclave residents are happy

According to local sources, election campaign of Haribhasa and Hafizabad union councils of Sadar upazila, Moidandighi of Boda, Kajoldighi of Kaliaganj, Mareabamonhat and Boroshoshi of Debiganj and Tepriganj of Chilhati came to end yesterday. The people of the union councils have become happy, as they have got the right of votes for the first time after division of India in 1947. Mofizur Rahan, Kaslimuddin and Sirajul Islam of Hafizabad told the Dhaka Tribune that they had become very pleased being voters for the first time. They said they would cast vote for a candidate who has clean image and would work for the development of the area. In eight unions, 39 people are vying for chairman posts, 326 in member posts and 98 for woman reserved seats. Total voters are 1, 40, 367. Md Abdul Hannan of Sadar upazila’s returning officer, Sumiara Parveen of Debiganj and Bijoy Chandra Barman of Boda said ballot boxes and ballot papers had been sent to the presiding officers of the union councils. Sarwar Jahan, election commissioner of the district, said all kinds of preparation had been taken to held free and fair elections. Members of law enforcers had been deployed at every centre to avoid any untoward situation, he added.
