BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia claimed that no country of the world has recognised the “illegal Awami League government,” which was formed through the January 5 election.
Addressing the ruling party leaders, she said: “So, do not think that holding photo sessions mean recognition. No country has given you [Awami League] legitimacy as there is no democracy in the country."
Claiming that the ruling Awami League has snatched the voting rights of people, Khaleda Zia urged the countrymen to wage tougher movement to get the voting rights back.
The BNP chief made the call while addressing a public rally in Nilphamari on Thursday afternoon.
Addressing the countrymen, she said: “The autocrat government has snatched the voting rights of the people of the country by arranging an illegal election. Wage tougher movement to get your voting rights back.”
“The Awami League cannot arrange fair elections as the leaders and activists of the party do not have any devotion to the nation. They want to stay in the power illegally to serve their own interest.”
Criticising the Election Commission for its “controversial role,” Khaleda said: “The EC failed to play a neutral role while arranging the January 5 polls.”
She urged the government to arrange an early election in order to “ uphold the democratic trend of the country.”
