BNP raises questions about AL council spending

Update : 19 Oct 2016, 06:50 PM
Speaking at an event on Wednesday afternoon at the Dhaka Reporters Unity, BNP Vice-Chairman Abdullah Al Noman said: “We do not know from where they are getting the crores of taka to spend on their colourful council.” The ruling Awami League will hold its 20th council on October 22 and 23 at Dhaka's historic Suhrawardy Udyan grounds. Major roads in the capital and Awami League's local offices have been decorated with lights for the event and the venue is adorned with a giant stage shaped like a boat, the party's symbol. The party will also arrange for meals for about 40-45,000 people who will attend the council, including councilors, delegates and guests. Noman alleged that the ruling party members had made all this money through “looting and plunder.” The public have questions about the spending on Awami League's colourful council preparations, Noman said. “If you survey the public reaction then you will understand what the public really thinks about your council,” he said to the ruling party. However, echoing the party's secretary general, Noman expressed the hope that Awami League's council would be observed peacefully and that it would be a pathway to “bringing back democracy to the country.” He warned the government saying if BNP were not allowed to hold their rally on November 7 at the Suhrawardy Udyan the party would go for a stronger movement.
