Zia’s death anniversary observed

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia along with hundreds of leaders and activists paid homage to the party founder and late president Ziaur Rahman’s grave yesterday morning.

The party flag was hoisted at half-mast at the BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters and all party offices across the country to mark the anniversary of death of the party founder.

Ziaur Rahman was assassinated by a group of military officials on the day in 1981 at Chittagong Circuit House, and since then the party has been observing the day as “Shahadat Day”.

Khaleda Zia along with the party senior leaders placed wreaths at Ziaur Rahman’s grave around 11:30am and offered fateha. The party leaders and activists showed respect to the leader observing a one-minute silence on the grave premises. Khaleda also attended a doa mahfil programme at the place organised by the Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal.

BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated a blood donation camp on the premises organised by the Doctors Association of Bangladesh and Zia Sankskritik Sangathan.

Before placing wreaths at the grave, FakThe BNP chairperson distributed food among the poor at TNT field of Farmgate, Khamarbari, Mohammadpur Town Hall ground, Sahid Park ground and some other places in the capital.

After distributing food among the poor at Paltan community centre, Khaleda went to the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters after around 12 months. She offered the Zuhr prayer and took lunch, and resumed distributing food there.
