A Kishoreganj court has sentenced 28 BNP leaders, including Khaled Saifullah, joint general secretary of BNP, Kishoreganj unit to three years rigorous imprisonment in a speedy tribunal case on Tuesday.
The court also fined Tk5,000 each, in default to suffer three months more jail.
Alaul Akbar, senior judicial magistrate of Kishoreganj said a speedy tribunal court handed down the verdict in a crowded court room on Tuesday noon.
According to the prosecution, accused BNP leaders attacked on duty police personnel with homemade sharp weapons during a mass procession of BNP and 18-party alliance on January 29 in 2012 in the Kishoreganj headquarter, leaving some police personnel injured and they also vandalized some vehicles.
Later, ATM Mahmudul Haque, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station filed a speedy tribunal case in the connection.
