‘BNP’s roar will go in vain’

Update : 24 May 2014, 09:01 PM

Awami League Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said the government is not worried about Khaleda Zia’s statements as they are aware of BNP’s organisational strength and their inability to start a movement.

“We know the strength of BNP. Currently they have no organising capacity to conduct anti-government movements,” the leader said while talking to the journalists yesterday at his TCB Bhaban office in Karwan Bazar in the city, in response to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s statement announcing anti-government movements.

He alleged that the BNP chief has tried to hold a rally on the Supreme Court premises to undermine the judiciary.

“They tried to hold the rally in the Supreme Court premises without prior approval. There is also a ruling of the High Court which prohibits the holding of rallies on the court premises. Through her bid to hold the rally at the court premises, Khaleda Zia proved again that she does not believe in the rule of law,” he added.

The leader alleged that Khaleda Zia and her family members are facing cases with charges of corruption, militancy and arms dealing, so her anger at the court can be easily understood.

Expressing the government’s strong stance on the Narayangani and Feni Murders, ruling party lawmaker Hanif said no one will go unpunished, even if they are influential leaders.
