Ershad: BNP can't oust the govt

Update : 18 May 2014, 01:08 PM

BNP does not have the strength to oust the government, Jatiya Party chairman and special envoy to the prime minister Hussein Muhammad Ershad has said.

“The fate of BNP is bleak. They do not have any issue to go on with at the moment,” HM Ershad told the media after his private tour in Sreemangal on Sunday.

“There is despair in the BNP barracks at the moment,” he said indicating to its Chairperson Khaleda Zia. “That is why she has launched a propaganda against me.”

The Jatiya Party chairman was speaking to the media in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar before heading back to Dhaka at the end of his private trip.

Regarding Jatiya Party's role in the parliament, Ershad said, “this is the first time we are the opposition. We are running the parliament effectively.”

“We have walked out of the parliament over several issues – power price hike and several others. We will continue to criticise the government in the future and walk out.”

Ershad said he will talk over the recent abductions, killings, and law and order situations of the country in the parliament soon.

Jatiya Party Presidium Member Taj Rahman and other leaders were present at the spot.
