Obaidul: Govt will have good ties with India’s new govt

Update : 15 May 2014, 07:18 PM

The regime change in India will not affect the ties with Bangladesh, said Communications Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday.

“The present government will have good ties with India, no matter which party comes to power in the neighbouring country,” he said, replying a reporters’ query in Sylhet.

India’s BJP, a major Hindu nationalist party, is believed to be coming to power this time, when Bangladesh government is led by the Awami League that is known to keep ties with the Congress better than the BJP.

Asked about Narayanganj’s seven-murder incident, he said, “We cannot say for sure who are responsible for the incident, but a vested quarter has been trying to create the pre-1975 situation in the country.”

The Kazir Bazar Bridge over the Surma river in Sylhet, which he was visiting, said it would be opened for traffic movement in December next year.

Minister Obaidul also attended a meeting in memory of Awami League leader Iftekhar Hossain Shamim at the Zila Parishad Auditorium in the city.
