The district Jamaat-e-Islami has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in greater Chittagong for Wednesday in protest against the arrest of it's Ameer and 20 other leaders and activists.
Chittagong district south unit Ameer Md Ishaq declared the shutdown on Monday afternoon, immediately after the arrest of the party chief and other members.
He said: “The hartal will be enforced in Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachari.”
Police have arrested Chittagong city unit Ameer ANM Shamsul Islam and 20 others Jamaat-Shibir activists from the party’s Chittagong office.
They were attending a secret meeting for a fresh agitation, police claimed.
The arrestees have been sent to Kotwali police station.
