N'ganj killing: Maya denies involvement of family

Dhaka City Awami League General Secretary and Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, has said there was no link of his family members with the accused of the 7-murder incident of Narayanganj.

The minister has issued a statement in this regard on Friday, reported BSS. "There was no communication, transaction and link of my family members with the accused of the 7-murder incident," he said.

The minister expressed profound shock at the murder of 7 people including Narayanaganj City Corporation councillor Nazrul Islam and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

"Different reports are being presented in media involving my family members in the incident, it is shocking and insulting for me and my family members," he added. He urged all to know the fact before making any comments on the incident.

Maya's son-in-law former Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mahmud was removed from his post as the chief of the Narayanganj RAB unit two days after seven people were abducted on April 27.

Later, the bodies of the victims were recovered from Shitalakhya river on April 30.

Allegation raised that Tarek was involved with the seven-murder. Later, he along with two other RAB officials, was forced retired from the elite force. The RAB officials have been kept under government surveillance.

Home State Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said: “The government has imposed restrictions onthree dismissed RAB officials so that they cannot leave the country before the investigationinto abduction and killing of seven people in Narayanganj ends.”
